Introduction
Plant diversity refers to the presence of a diverse range of plant species in their natural habitats. There are approximately 300,000-500,000 species of vascular plants on the planet. Plants are multicellular, photosynthetic organisms that can be found in both water and on land. They are the primary producers (autotrophs) and play a critical role in the food chain. Land plants include bryophytes (mosses), lycophytes (ferns), gymnosperms (woody plants without flowers but with seed and cones), and angiosperms (flowering plants).
Algae are among the aquatic plants. Plant diversity is important because it supports a wide range of life forms.
